Characterization of Perpendicular Recording Heads Using Inductance Measurements

A novel high resolution inductance characterization of recording head write elements is based on ISI RIA-2008 analyzer. Detection of yoke, coil, and trailing shield defects is achieved by saturating the write head structures using external magnetic field and write current. RIA tests will be discussed and experimental results presented.
