Technical Symposium Presented by IDEMA: "Beyond 1 Tb/in2"--Enabling Technologies
December 6, 2007
Hyatt Regency Hotel, 5101 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, CA
Registration begins at 8:00am
Chairman: Dr. Michael Russak, Executive Director, IDEMA
9:00am-9:45am: Session 1: Magnetic Recording Roadmap/Tutorial
Dr. Mark Kryder, former CTO of Seagate, currently at Carnegie Mellon University, will kick off the symposium with a presentation covering the current view of the HDD industry magnetic recording roadmap and an overview of the challenges that need to be overcome to reach the 1Tb/in2 and beyond areal density level.
10:15am-11:45am: Session 2: Foundation for 1 Tb/in2 Recording
This session will deal with the near term technology landscape that provides the foundation for 1Tb/in2 recording with the focus on media and head technology. Additionally, extensions to state of the art planar perpendicular recording will be presented.
1:00pm-5:00pm: Session 3: Advanced Recording Technology--How Do We Get There?
This session will focus on the three leading candidates for >1Tb/in2 recording, Heat Assisted Recording (HAMR), Discrete Track Recording (DTR) and Bit Pattern Recording (BPR) as well as the even more advanced recording concept of Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording. Additionally, there will be a presentation on radial stage e-beam writers and Nano imprint lithograph systems for research and manufacturing.
Registration includes continental breakfast, breaks and lunch
